Wh14ns40 libredrive5/16/2023 Lastly, i saw that some enclosures / USB adaptors won't support the low level flashing commands. ![]() I also saw some indication that the hardware is the same, so I can possibly cross-flash to a faster drives firmware. This is the information according to MakeMKV Drive Information OS device name: E: Current profile: BD-ROM Manufacturer: ASMedia Product: ASM105x Revision: 1. It is internal and I use a SATA to USB converter. Am I right in understanding that there's a "sweet spot" that, too early of a firmware version, and it can't read UHD discs, but to recent (1.3? 1.4?) and you can't run LibreDrive and thus can't rip? So I bought a 'UHD friendly' LG WH14NS40 blu ray drive. With 1.03 or 1.04 installed, these drives are not able to read a 4K disc, developed in an effort to further the anti-piracy movement. I've only really been looking at this for a few hours, and I'm a little confused. Product Description This is a brand new LG WH16NS40 that came from the factory with firmware 1.03 or 1.04 depending on date of manufacture, and service code NS50. However, there are easy methods to downgrade the firmware to the version that will (v1.02). Out of the box the drive will not read 4k discs (firmware v1.04+). It's considerably cheaper than the official 4k drives (maybe by more than half). ![]() ![]() A regular bluray disc went fine and ripped fine. The WH14NS40 by LG is a great buy if you want to rip your 4k blu-rays so you may play them on Kodi or Plex. Out of curiosity, I tried to read a UHD disk, but it wasn't recognized. I just salvaged a WH14NS40 from an old PC and slapped it into a Vantec USB 3 enclosure.
